Speech, Language and Communication Needs

Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) are when children or a young person has difficulty when communicating. Every child or young person with SLCN is different and their needs may change; they may find it difficult to express themselves, understand what is being communicated to them or they may not understand social rules in terms of communicating.

At Fern House School we aim to meet every child’s individual needs including their SLCN, all teachers and teaching assistants are aware of their pupil’s needs and will plan and tailor their support to ensure every child makes progress.

Additionally, we have the support of a trained Speech and Language Therapist, who offers support and advice where necessary to ensure that progress is made in relation to the SLCN of our pupils.
