Fern House School

  • The Fern House Way: Me, You, Us

At Fern House, we view behaviour as a fundamental learning process. A key aim is to help every member of our school community develop self-awareness – an integrated sense of self within society. We also place high importance on learning empathy, as this is crucial for children and young people to understand that others exist and have diverse experiences. It is through the combination of self-awareness and empathy that healthy relationships are formed.

Therefore, our approach to learning and behaviour is defined by three core pillars: Understanding Myself (Me), Learning Empathy (You), and Building Positive Relationships (Us).

       Me: Understanding Myself

I understand who I am, my experiences and how they have shaped me.

I understand my personal boundaries, challenges and triggers.

I understand my unique qualities, interests and aspirations.

I understand my place in the world.

    I am self-aware and capable of self-reflection.

       You: Learning Empathy

I recognise that you exist and have an awareness of your needs.

I recognise that you have feelings.

    I enjoy your company.

I understand the similarities and differences between us.

I understand my impact on you.

       Us: Building Positive Relationships

We build and maintain healthy relationships.

We feel comfortable and at ease with each other.

We share our successes and support each other through challenges.

We are an active part of a thriving community.

We grow together, learning from each other.
