At Fern House School we pride ourselves on the quality of our school meals. We provide nutritious, healthy food served in an environment that promotes social interaction between the children. The current cost for a school meal is £2 per day. A menu is attached for you to view the selection that is on offer.
Free School Meals
If you are entitled to Free School Meals, you will recieve support over the Easter Holidays. This will be in the same way as per previous holidays through the Edenred voucher scheme.
We would encourage any parent who believes they may be entitled to claim free school meals for their child to do so. As well as ensuring that their child receives a hot meal, there are also a number of benefits for the school in relation to the number of pupils receiving free meals. Additional funding can often be obtained which can be for the benefit of all our young people and so we strongly urge any parent who is entitled but not currently claiming, to contact the school.
All contacts will be treated in strict confidence and the school can even provide support for parents in completing the relevant documentation.
You are entitled to free school meals where parents are receiving one of the following:
- Income support
- Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
- Employment and Support Allowance (IR)
- Supported under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Child Tax Credit, provided that your annual income is less than £16,190
- The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Unfortunately, those receiving Working Tax Credit cannot apply. If you would like to apply for free school meals, please print off the attached form and return it to the Office with proof of entitlement.
Meat Served in Enfield Schools
We have received the information below from the Local Authority:
'All our meat suppliers have confirmed they have not purchased meat from anyone reported to have used undeclared horse, or pork meat. In addition, they will continue to monitor this using compositional analysis. We have written confirmation from all our suppliers: William White Meats Ltd; Brakes Group and Pasta King to that effect. These suppliers regularly test the meat and produce that is sold to council catering services. The Council follows guidance from the Food Standards Agency. Sampling and testing of food served in schools and council premises is a regular requirement so that we maintain high standards of nutrition, quality and hygiene.'
As you are aware the school have changed providers for food as of 20th April. We would like to thank the LBE for their support over the years and welcome warmly our new provider the Pantry.
