Our Therapeutic Approach / Behaviour

Welcome to our Therapeutic Approach / Behaviour page.

At Fern House School, we share an understanding that our pupils have experienced some degree of trauma and relational disconnection which has impacted heavily on the way they view themselves, others and the world around them, resulting in an unhealthy way of expression and feelings of worthlessness.

At Fern House School, our children have a diverse range of needs which we accommodate. All of our children have an education health care plan (EHCP). In addition to an EHCP, some of our children have diagnoses of ADHD. We also have specialist classes catering for our autistic children.

Everything we do is focussed on supporting the mental health of our children and young people. Security and relationship are at the core of our curriculum as it is these two elements that have most been compromised by trauma. Underpinning our practice is our attachment aware, trauma informed approach.

To support our students our learning is organised around an accessible menu of therapeutic interventions reinforced throughout and across the curriculum-enhanced and illuminated through our sensitively attuned-relationships.
