History Curriculum
History Intent
We introduce our pupils to topics ranging from ancient Egypt to the 1960s civil rights movement in America. and including some key moments in British history. These topics have been chosen for their potential for engagement, links to other areas of the curriculum, and the opportunities they provide to enhance our pupils cultural experience and understanding. The development of literacy and communication is at the heart of everything we do in history as is the opportunity for pupils to reflect on the social and emotional drivers of human behaviour.
Each topic will emphasise the 3 core drivers that underpin our history curriculum: A secure understanding of chronology, an appreciation of cause and effect and the development of empathy. Acknowledging the time constraints on our curriculum we believe that studying two topics a year in depth, rather than a superficial coverage of a greater number of mini topics, is the most valuable approach for our pupils.
