  • RE Curriculum:Exploring Faith, Morality, and Society

    RE Intent

At Fern House School, our Religious Education curriculum is designed to provide pupils with a fundamental understanding of the importance of faith in the lives of individuals and communities. We believe it is crucial for them to appreciate how the core messages of major world religions influence public morality for both believers and non-believers, shaping rituals, festivals, and the broader social and legal framework.

To maximise relevance and benefit for our pupils and their families, our in-depth study primarily focuses on Christianity and Islam. Key principles from four other major religions will be introduced and shared, providing a broad overview without in-depth exploration.

Each year, pupils will delve into two key topics. These will focus on the central messages of Christ and Mohammed, as expressed through major festivals, and explore their profound impact on believers and wider society. To enrich their learning, pupils will also have the invaluable opportunity to visit and understand the significant features of a church and a mosque.

Beyond religious understanding, our RE curriculum actively develops essential literacy and communication skills. Furthermore, it provides a vital platform for pupils to reflect critically on human motivation and behaviours, fostering empathy and informed perspectives.
