GROWING TOGETHER
At Fern House School, our History curriculum immerses pupils in a diverse range of captivating topics, from the ancient civilisations of Egypt to the transformative 1960s Civil Rights Movement in America, alongside pivotal moments in British history. These carefully selected topics are chosen for their strong potential to engage pupils, create meaningful links across the wider curriculum, and significantly enhance their cultural understanding and experience.
Central to our approach to history is the robust development of literacy and communication skills. We also provide crucial opportunities for pupils to reflect deeply on the social and emotional drivers that shape human behaviour throughout time.
Every history topic actively reinforces the three core drivers underpinning our curriculum:
Acknowledging the inherent time constraints within our curriculum, we firmly believe that an in-depth study of two topics per year offers the most valuable learning experience for our pupils, rather than a superficial coverage of numerous 'mini-topics'. This focused approach ensures deep understanding and lasting engagement.
