Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and carefully adapted to have a sensory approach, be experiential and accessible for all learners. It is designed to engage all the senses, allowing pupils to experience, hear, and understand language in meaningful contexts. Learning is hands-on and immersive, enabling pupils to explore topics deeply through tactile, visual, and practical experiences.
Our approach is evidence-informed, drawing on guidance from the Autism Education Trust (AET) and the Enfield Advisory Service for Autism (EASA). We place a strong emphasis on developing life skills and understanding what it means to live and participate in our world. Emotional understanding and regulation are central to our provision, supported by the Zones of Regulation framework, helping pupils to recognise, express, and manage their emotions effectively.
Communication is at the heart of all learning. We create a total communication environment, using Makaton, visuals, gestures, and spoken words to ensure every child can express themselves and be understood. We meet each child at their individual level, supporting them in small, achievable steps toward greater independence and communication with others.
Our curriculum is cross-curricular and thematic, with learning experiences connected across subjects. Core texts chosen in English lessons link to afternoon activities, ensuring that children are fully immersed in each term’s topic and can make meaningful connections in their learning.
Overall, our curriculum celebrates individuality, fosters communication, and builds the essential skills pupils need to thrive both in school and in life.
